Wednesday 8th July - Trekking

An early start this morning.  Our driver told us that we have to be there by 06.30 to see the monks receiving their alms from the locals, but when we got there reception told us that they pass by at 05:30 - an even earlier start tomorrow.

At least it meant we were first down to breakfast.

Picked up at 08:30 and headed off on a one-hour drive to start the trek.

Car dropped us off at a village where the guide showed us around.  Note the satellite dishes.

There was a fantastic photo opportunity with a 95 year old man holding his 14 week great-great grandchild  but David would not let me take it.

Then it was trekking, trekking and yet more trekking.  In fact, FOUR HOURS of trekking.  I was not best pleased.  It was ridiculously hot and I was getting eaten by mosquitoes.

I thought all rice grew in paddy fields but their is also "mountain rice" that is just planted in the ground and relies on rainfall.

Believe it or not, the following 2 pictures are mango trees:

FINALLY, after FOUR HOURS of trekking we reached the waterfall:

Fortunately, lunch was waiting for us when we arrived:

And after that it was some swimming:

Before heading out of the park via a bear sanctuary.  The bears have all been rescued from poachers who either keep them in captivity or kill them for their bile:

But after FOUR HOURS of trekking, the drive back to the hotel was too much for me.

Did I mention it was FOUR HOURS of trekking?
