Sunday 5th July - to Laos

The great weather has returned and Singapore is hot and sunny.  Breakfast in the hotel (not good) followed by a stroll around the quay.

11:00 transfer to the airport - Changi is not at all bad place to spend time at an airport.  Two-hour flight to Bangkok:

We then had a 5 hour layover until the 19:35 flight to Vientiane.  Luckily David has a card which  let is unto a lounge for 2 hours with free food and drink - hurrah!

50 minute flight and we are in the People's Democratic Republic of Laos.

Compared to Singapore this is the dark ages but initial impressions are good.  Dropped the stuff at the hotel:

Then walked about 1.5 km to a restaurant recommended by the guy who will be our guide tomorrow.  The food was fantastic (have to say much better than anything we ate in Singapore):

And the whole lot came to £17 including a margarita, 2 beers and 2 glasses of lime juice, sour fish soup, papaya salad, roast chicken, rice cooked in bamboo.  They sure like their chilli in Laos and some of it was too hot even for me - especially the salad.
